SUMMARY:"Welcome" Mural Project
DESCRIPTION:CEPEO (Les écoles du Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario) invites students to participate in the creation of a mural that demonstrates the openness\, inclusion and diversity in our board. \nDuring the month of May\, students will draw an image of how they see themselves at their school\, and then create a collaborative work of art that symbolizes the phrase “Welcome to your home” as a mural inside the school. CEPEO staff will also be invited to participate in this activity at the board’s main office. The project will be documented by videos and photos published on social media. \n

SUMMARY:Summer Solstice Indigenous Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Summer Solstice Indigenous Festival (SSIF) helps Canadians of all walks of life to recognize the enormous contributions that Inuit\, First Nations and Métis peoples have made to Canada. \nWith input from Indigenous Peoples’ national organizations\, the Government of Canada designated June 21 National Indigenous Peoples Day (NIPD) to celebrate Indigenous peoples’ culture and heritage. This date was chosen because it is near or on the date of the summer solstice\, the longest day of the year. For generations\, many Indigenous communities have celebrated their culture and heritage at this time of year. \nFor over twenty years\, NIPD events in the National Capital Region have created an opportunity for all residents to celebrate the culture and contributions of First Nations\, Métis and Inuit peoples. The Summer Solstice Indigenous Festival is a family-oriented multi-disciplinary arts festival that attracts over 40\,000 visitors a year. \nSSIF is an annual event that truly represents the cultural diversity of our urban Indigenous community\, with full participation of First Nations\, Métis and Inuit artists. This diversity within our own cultures is reflected in all elements of the event\, from leadership to the selection of artists representing each of the Indigenous communities. We stay true to diversity each year\, as we include headliners and workshop leaders from the Métis\, Inuit and First Nations communities.

SUMMARY:Creating an Equitable City
DESCRIPTION:There is strong and growing evidence that structural\, systemic racism produces inequities in the life outcomes of Ottawa residents\, disadvantaging those who are immigrants or racialized. \nThe Equity Ottawa partnership is hosting a reflection on supports and strategies needed for municipal\, health\, education\, justice and social service sector organizations to: \n\nCreate diverse governance and leadership;\nPlan effectively for the needs of immigrants and racialized populations;\nTrack progress in redressing inequities;\nEngage communities and the public in building a city that is free of racism and other barriers to equity.\n\nThis discussion will contribute to the creation of a multifaceted\, collective action plan for equity and anti-racism in Ottawa. \nPlease register in advance \nThe Ottawa Local Immigration Partnership’s Socio-Civic Integration Sector Partners established the Equity Ottawa initiative in 2012 with the aim of cultivating equitable and inclusive organizations.
