SUMMARY:Action Journée mondiale des réfugiés: leçons du legs extraordinaire des actions entreprises à Ottawa
DESCRIPTION:Les défenseurs des groupes communautaires et cultuels ont depuis longtemps joué un rôle important pour exiger du gouvernement canadien qu’il adopte des politiques plus libérales envers les réfugiés. Ces groupes ont été des piliers en offrant la protection à ceux qui cherchaient asile\, particulièrement ceux venus d’Asie du sud-est à la fin des années 1970 et de Syrie à partir de 2015. Ces expériences sont précieuses alors que le Canada continue de recevoir des milliers de réfugiés d’Ukraine et d’Afghanistan. Le ROC (St. Joseph’s Refugee Outreach Committee)\, un des plus vieux groupes de bénévoles ottaviens\, a aidé des centaines de nouveaux arrivants et de réfugiés depuis 1990. Cet événement honorera les quelques trente ans du ROC et sera l’occasion d’une conversation sur comment se mobiliser dans l’accueil des réfugiés de façon urgente et significative. Ce sera aussi l’occasion de marquer la sortie du livre «  »Ordinary People\, Extraordinary Actions » »\, qui raconte comment des «  »gens ordinaires » » à Ottawa\, et particulièrement de la paroisse St Joseph\, ont pris des petits et des grands moyens pour accueillir les personnes cherchant refuge dans la communauté. Lors de cet événement\, il y aura de brèves allocutions de la part de: Jim Watson\, Maire d’Ottawa \nJacques Frémont\, Recteur de l’Université d’Ottawa\nLouisa Taylor\, Directrice de Réfugié613\nDes membres établis de longue date du ROC\nD’anciens nouveaux arrivants ayant un lien avec le ROC \nLes auteurs du livre: Ordinary People\, Extraordinary Actions: Refuge Through Activism at Ottawa’s St. Joe’s Parish Venez en apprendre plus sur la riche histoire d’Ottawa en matière de réfugiés et sur comment vous impliquer. Des hôtels\, des tavernes et des pensions se sont aussi installés dans les rues autour du marché. Aujourd’hui de nombreux restaurants et magasins appartenant à des immigrants se trouvent dans le quartier. Mark Farine est le guide des tournées en français et en anglais du marché By.
