SUMMARY:Cultures of giving: A welcome to volunteering in Ottawa
DESCRIPTION:This event will be a 90 minutes (about 1.5 hours) virtual or\, if possible\, hybrid\, roundtable event convened by Volunteer Ottawa (VO). \nParticipants in this event will be introduced to Canada’s structures supporting volunteerism and volunteer engagement: from volunteer centres like VO where newcomers can find volunteering opportunities\, to Volunteer Ottawa member organizations who will feature curated volunteering opportunities for newcomers. \nGiven the fact that volunteerism in Canada follows certain structures (volunteer roles\, applications\, etc.)\, newcomers will be introduced by VO’s team to “”how to”” use our website and other similar ones\, and how to distinguish between different volunteer opportunities. \nAt the same time\, this event will count with the participation of newcomers to Canada who have been leaders in volunteering to recognize that there is no “”one way”” of volunteering or to freely giving one’s time and talent in the pursuit of charitable or altruistic goals. \nIn turn\, the event will also seek to recognize and amplify the experiences that newcomer volunteers have had in Ottawa and how they have brought their own cultures of giving into Canada’s social fabric. \nTentative structure: Volunteerism in Canada and Cultures of Giving Panel featuring a diverse array of lived experiences and traditions tied to freely giving one’s time and talents; How to use Volunteer Ottawa to volunteer; Volunteer opportunities curated for newcomers by Volunteer Ottawa member organizations. \nRegistration link: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZAtf-6sqjojG9BMCO_9hn47Q-2-dHM2r82l \nLanguage: Bilingual
