Do you know someone who made a meaningful difference in your journey of settling in Ottawa? Someone whose kindness, support, or guidance helped you feel at home in a new city? Now is your chance to recognize them.
The Ottawa Local Immigration Partnership (OLIP) is now accepting nominations for the 2026 Welcoming Ottawa Ambassadors Award—a special honour presented annually by the Mayor of Ottawa to outstanding individuals who exemplify the city’s values of inclusion and hospitality.
We’re looking for stories from immigrants and refugees who want to shine a light on someone who helped them integrate and thrive in Ottawa. Whether it was a small act of kindness or ongoing support, we want to hear about the people who made your transition easier.
Maybe it was:
- A coworker who helped you adjust to a new workplace culture.
- A neighbour who welcomed you with open arms.
- A mentor who guided you through your first steps in Canada.
- A friend who introduced you to new opportunities and connections.
No matter how long ago you arrived in Ottawa—be it weeks or decades—you’re eligible to submit a nomination.
Who Can Nominate and Be Nominated?
- Nominators must be immigrants or refugees.
- Nominees can be anyone—any age, background, or profession—who made a positive impact.
- There is no time limit on how long either person has lived in Ottawa.
Your Action:
- Explore the qualities that Welcoming Ottawa Ambassadors have embodied.
- Complete and submit your nomination online by May 15, 2026.
