There is strong and growing evidence that structural, systemic racism produces inequities in the life outcomes of Ottawa residents, disadvantaging those who are immigrants or racialized.

The Equity Ottawa partnership is hosting a reflection on supports and strategies needed for municipal, health, education, justice and social service sector organizations to:

  • Create diverse governance and leadership;
  • Plan effectively for the needs of immigrants and racialized populations;
  • Track progress in redressing inequities;
  • Engage communities and the public in building a city that is free of racism and other barriers to equity.

This discussion will contribute to the creation of a multifaceted, collective action plan for equity and anti-racism in Ottawa.

The Ottawa Local Immigration Partnership’s Socio-Civic Integration Sector Partners established the Equity Ottawa initiative in 2012 with the aim of cultivating equitable and inclusive organizations. Seven years later, Equity Ottawa is now creating a consensus-based community action plan to build capacities and implement measures for equity. Equity Ottawa is supported by the Ontario Trillium Foundation and partner contributions.
